Michigan Couple Win $4M in Lottery with a Last-Minute Purchase
The lives of a couple from Macomb County of Michigan, United States were changed after they landed on a $4 million jackpot in the Super Raffle game of Michigan Lottery.
The pair bought the winning ticket at The Silver House Liquor at 25 Mile Road in Macomb. They made the purchase after realising they had forgotten to buy their normal Mega Millions tickets when they were going home from a high school football game.
The Lucky Last-Minute Purchase
“We made a quick stop to get our tickets and asked the clerk if the Super Raffle tickets were still available. When he told us the drawing date had been extended, we mulled the decision over for a minute, and decided to buy a ticket.” the anonymous winner recalled.
“On Oct. 4, my husband realised the drawing had taken place a day earlier and checked our ticket,” the woman continued. Her husband didn’t believe his eyes so he called her to ask her to double check the ticket. “When he read the number off to me, I checked it online at the Lottery’s website and that’s when the shock of winning hit us both.”
On the same day, the couple did a Facetime call with their children, who were away at college to tell them the good news. “We told them that they don’t need to worry about working while they go to school and we’ll pay for their tuition.” said the woman.
The lucky pair have already visited Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim their prize. Instead of annuity payments for the full amount, the couple went for a one-time lump-sum payment of $2.5 million. They plan to invest the money in the future of their family.
